Vietnam's Money In Using (Part 2)

We'll continue with the rest of Vietnam's money denominations:

The following denomination is 10.000 VNĐ

You can buy 2 bottles of water (500ml / bottle). But in some areas such as big cities, or travel towns, resorts,...ect, the prices must be higher. So, I just give you the prices at my place, so you could understand this money denomination easier.

When the seller asks you to pay 11.000VNĐ just give them 10.000 VNĐ + 1.000 VNĐ.

10.000 + 10.000 = 20.000 VNĐ

6 months ago, I could buy 10 eggs with only 20.000 VNĐ. But now, you have to add 5.000 VNĐ, because the price is 25.000 VNĐ/ 10 eggs.

20.000 +20.000 = 40.000 VNĐ , but we don't have that kind of denomination.




 So, the next would be 50.000 VNĐ.

The tip is: make the sellers return to you 10.000 VNĐ if the price is only 40.000 VNĐ
 I can't take my friend to KFC because 50.000 VNĐ only can serve 1 person.

5 sheets of 10.000 VNĐ = 50.000 VNĐ
2 sheets of 20.000 VNĐ + 1 sheet of 10.000 VNĐ = 50.000 VNĐ

50.000 + 50.000 = 100.000 VNĐ

 This is how 100.000 VNĐ look like:

This amount of money is enough to buy foods for 2 adults and 2 children in a family for a whole day. Life in countrysides is way easier in prices than big cities, especially foods, they're fresher and better in taste.

10 sheets of 10.000 VNĐ = 100.000 VNĐ
5 sheets of 10.000 VNĐ   = 100.000 VNĐ
2 sheets of 50.000 VNĐ   = 100.000 VNĐ

100.000 + 100.000 = 200.000 VNĐ


200.000 VNĐ denomination :

You should be careful with this money denomination, even Vietnamese sometimes may have confused with the 10.000 VNĐ denomination. Because the colors are almost the same, just a little bit different, so when you're in hurry, you could give the wrong sheet to the sellers, instead of 10.000 VNĐ, you'd give them 200.000 VNĐ, and in some cases, they'd not return the rest of money to you.
But don't worry, you just need to remember, the size of 200.000 VNĐ is larger than 10.000 VNĐ. So before paying money, you should check the sizes of two denominations.

The last one is 500.000 VNĐ

This is the highest denomination in Vietnam's Money.

50 sheets of 10.000 VNĐ = 500.000 VNĐ
25 sheets of 20.000 VNĐ = 500.000 VNĐ
10 sheets of 50.000 VNĐ = 500.000 VNĐ
5 sheets of 100.000 VNĐ = 500.000 VNĐ
2 sheets of 200.000 + 1 sheet of 100.000 = 500.000 VNĐ

Another advice is you should look carefully at the prices and check the money 3 times before paying to make sure that you wouldn't have any mistake. And you also should have a local tour guide or a Vietnamese friend goes with you to get to know about Vietnam better.They really could help you out of some troubles you may caught by misunderstanding.

Vietnam's Money in Using (Part 1)

So, today, I've got my mood back. As yesterday, I was talking to an old friend, that's really help. This topic is for tourists in Vietnam. As I have seen many travelers had bought products with very high prices or they'd given the wrong denomination of money. For example: in order to pay 5000 VNĐ, you'd pay 50.000 VNĐ, in that case, the sellers must repay 45.000 VNĐ, but they just give you 40.000 VNĐ. Then, if you know Vietnam's money denominations, I think your travel in our country would be more perfect. And I want to insist that not all of Vietnamese sellers are that bad, just a few of them, so as in other countries in Asia like Chinese, you'd usually trick by those bad sellers when you don't understand their languages well, this can be understanding.

Let's start with the lowest denomination : 500 VNĐ

You can buy a small candy. Or when you see the price like 4.500 VNĐ, then you can use this denomination together with others money denomination because it has 500 behind.

500 VNĐ + 500 VNĐ = 1.000 VNĐ











The next denomination is 1.000 VNĐ:  

A Cool Air chewing gum can be bought with 1.000 VNĐ. If you see the price like 11.000 VNĐ then you can give 10.000 + 1.000 VNĐ together. The same with 101.000 VNĐ, you'd give 100.000 + 1.000 VNĐ.

1.000 VNĐ + 1.000 VNĐ = 2.000 VNĐ








2.000 VNĐ will be like this :   

This kind of money can be used to buy 2 Cool Air gums. In the countryside, you can go to the market place and tell the greengrocer:" Give me 2.000 VNĐ of onion.". Isn't that fun? But in the big cities like Ho Chi Minh or Ha Noi, you should buy chewing gum then.

2.000 VNĐ + 2.000 VNĐ = 4.000 VNĐ

But we don't have money denomination 4.000 VNĐ. So, whenever you see price like 14.000 VNĐ, you can give 10.000 VNĐ + two sheets of  2.000 VNĐ instead. Or give them 5.000 VNĐ, and they will return you 1.000 VNĐ, a little tip for you.

Let's have a look at 5.000 VNĐ

To pay for parking a motorcycle in public place such as hospitals or supermarkets. 5.000 VNĐ equals 5 Cool Air gums, a bunch of vegetable or a pencil, a pen,...ect.

10 sheets of 500 VNĐ    = 5.000 VNĐ
5   sheets of 1.000 VNĐ = 5.000 VNĐ
2 sheets of 2.000 + 1 sheet of 1.000  = 5.000VNĐ

I have to admit from the last post, my emotions have become worse and worse. Of course, I was not thinking about dying, but the sadness like a big shadow came and covered me, I can't find a way to be happy. So many things that I couldn't be happy: China's going to get all of us stuck into a meaningless war, they want to rule the Eastern Sea and its resources. Finding a job now is so hard, a lot of people are unemployed, even many companies have gone to bankruptcy. Just mention some of my worries, although they were millions things. I have a feeling that I'm in the middle of a storm, everything's swept away by an amazing speed. Too fast to stop. Every morning, I wake up, embarrassingly, I don't know what to do for the day. I pray for tomorrow to be better, and let today flows like a river. This mood reminds me of some song's lyrics:

" No more champagne, and the fireworks are through, here we are, me and you, feeling lost and feeling blue.
It's the end of the party. And the morning seems so grey,...".

Yes, the feeling now exactly like when I hear this song. Although, the day is so beautiful but in my eyes only see grey color. I don't want to go anywhere, I hide myself in the corner of sorrow. No wonder if you would laugh at me, but I can understand, because nobody can imagine where in the world would have such an unlucky person as me. Just in 3 months, lots of unwanted things have happened to me. Grandfather's lost. Job's lost. House's lost. Well, is there more to loss?

This song of PINK is dedicated to me and those ones like me or worse than me (but I don't hope so). I want to try to the end. I don't want to give up to my destiny. If God want to challenge me, I'm here to stay. There's another cover of this song that I really like. The boy sang it in The Voice Kid Vietnam, so cute, he kept trembling while singing, but still awesome. Hope you like it, too.

Suicide!

People were born with very different fates. Someone would be rich, or poor, they may succeed or fail many, many times in their lives. What will happen if you won a lottery and after one night you become a millionaire? I've read about a man, he was too happy about winning lottery that he had killed himself. You might think he must be crazy, why didn't he use the money for buying things he'd wanted? But I think he was a kind of person that couldn't bear with pressure even if it was happiness or sadness.

If you were God in 24 hours, you'd receive a lot of wishes like: "I want to be rich,..." or "I want to be a famous actress...", "I want to be a famous singer..."," I want him/her to love me,...",...ect, cannot count enough wishes in one's life. But if God couldn't answer in time or help you when you need him badly, what would you do then? Will you stay there and wait? Well, a lot of patient people will do that. Or you try your best to get things better, but what if they're out of you hand? You can't control things like the way you want then what? That's when we discuss about suicide. Just hang yourself up or cut your artery, or a bullet, maybe a knife or sleeping pills, gas, poisons,... any kind you could think about to be free of all the problems you're having. Just one thing that you couldn't think about: Why can you find out a lot of ways to end up you life easily but cannot think a way to get out of pressures? Moreover, do you think you'd really be free after dying? You think that you'd disappear as you've never existed? You may wrong. In Asia, we believe that life after death still continue. We usually call ghost. I think differently, they're just another kind of human. Of course, they cannot breath the air or eat like us, but, let's think: a person can live for 60 or over 100 years on Earth but after death, spirits are still there for hundreds years or even thousands years. Maybe you don't believe me, I know. So if I wasn't right, why Pharaohs had built pyramids? A place for their next lives after deaths? Or in old houses, castles, buildings, many people said they've seen ghosts? Nonsense stories? If they were mental, they must be in hospital all. The fact is people keep avoiding about spirit and life after death, but it really does exist. Not just because you can't see, so they're not real. If you say you only believe unless you've seen, then I'd like to ask: Have you ever seen God's face? How many of you have ever seen God? Why do you trust him? Maybe just your imagination? And what about UFOs? Aliens? Have you seen them before? Why do NASA and a lot of science groups keep researching about them? Well, there must be only one answer: Things still exist not only when you've seen them before!

Back to my topic: suicide. Why do I have to insist of lives after death. Because a lot of people now find death like the only way to escape pressures. That's just pathetic! As they don't know after a second they've killed themselves, they still have to go on for hundreds years. They cannot completely escape from anything or anywhere, is it sad? Someone wishes to be rich, but the rich person wishes they can have one day be normal people. You may want to be famous but many famous actresses or singers have been suicidal because they can't bear all the pressures that fame brought to them. You wish for someone you love would love you, but many married couples are waiting to divorce. Life will not be fair until you still wishes for something you don't have. When you think you've had enough, then you have enough. Being a human means that you'll have both joys and sorrows in you life, no one can be happy and lucky forever or they'd be in bad luck in a whole life. The way each of us chooses to deal with our problems will lead us to different lives. My message is: don't end up your life while you can live. Many cancer patients wish for one more day to live, many soldiers in the battles wish they could survive, many children in poor countries don't want to die because of lacking food. You're much more happy than those, just one or two problem, you'd suicide. If only your death can bring life to another one that need, then it deserves. But the fact that when you die, only you go alone, and your family still stay there with sadness. Your death has no benefits to anyone else even you. I would like my post can go all the way to who are trying to kill their lives because of some silly pressures. That action is just telling us how coward and selfish you are. When you think bigger, see wider, you'll realize the world is so extensive, there are a lot of things you haven't seen, many places you haven't been, many people you haven't met. At least, your living can help someone or bring happiness to people that love you. I don't deny that sometimes, I have thought of death, but then I think about my children, my parents and all the things I want to do but yet done, I want to live again. Then I see my problem is too small to die. I'd be crazy if I die because of something like that. That are reasons for me to live on after all unlucky things happen to me. And I think everyone has their own reasons to live, when you're too upset about what life bring to you, just think about them. Hopefully, there will be brighter day tomorrow, or tomorrow of tomorrow. Don't you think so?

Does Vietnamese have sense of Humor?

Usually, we think that Asia people have less humor than European or American, Australian,... right? Well, today, let's find out about it.

Happy Rooms!

When I write this title, I guess a lot of you would think about a room in your houses or restaurants, hotels or somewhere else, right? But they're all wrong. Actually, I'm mentioning about rooms in prison. Yes, that's the point, why would in such places like that have happy rooms? What are they happy about? Just in Vietnam's prisons, you can find them. I remember I've watched many movies that had described how prisons in America, Iraq, Chinese,... are. Well, the first thought was awful! They have been treated like animals and have no human's right at all. They've been beaten by other prisoners and guards. But in Vietnam, things are very different. Even though someone has caused a very serious crime, but when they're in prisons, Vietnam's Government will give them opportunities to change. Prisoners will have works to do that depend on their abilities like women can do sewing, or knitting while men do carpentry works or building, or iron,... ect. And when they work hard on their jobs and observe the rules in prison well, they will get a chance to meet their wives/ husbands in the happy rooms. These rooms have been built up in prisons for about 20 years. Although, prisoners have no rights like a normal person, but still, they're human beings. They've done many cruel things out there, and they deserved to be in jails, that's fair. But on the other hand, they're not dead, so it means they still need love from their families. We believe after each meeting between prisoner and family in this happy room, they'll have more courage to continue to study and work harder in prison, till the day they're released and start all over again. I consider this is a very humanitarian action of our Government. Let's see how these rooms look like:

Each room has air-condition, private bathroom and toilet, television, bed with mattress,...like a normal room or even better. Of course no one would like to try this room but to prisoners, these rooms have big meanings to them and help them to live better, happier.

Actually, I'm about to write of another topic. But, when I read about this on the news, I've thinking about these happy rooms in prisons. And by this post, I really want all the prisons in the world maybe not as cruel as those movies I've watched. They deserve their crimes to be in jails, but they're still humans. Don't treat them like animals or even worse.

Children's Day

I remember Uncle Hồ- our respectable President used to say:
 "Children are like sprouts on the boughs
 Learning to eat well and sleep tight and study hard, that' s all needed." (my bad, I'm not sure I did translate 2 sentences in the right way, but I've tried my best, sorry Uncle.)

Why do I mention this? Because today is International Children's Day June-1st. Congratulations for children all over the world. May all of you live in loving, caring, sharing and become good people. And you'll make the world be a better place with no wars, no nuclear weapons, no environment pollution. Will you help us- children? But at first I'll borrow your smiles and cute faces to blow away all the worries in my mind:

 I wish I could laugh without any worry in my heart like children.

 
But in this day, please don't forget about the other part of the world, where children had to suffer, because of wars, diseases, loss, poorness, hunger, abuse, and death:

2 sister and brother have been abused by their own father for 3 years in China

 When our children can go to Disneyland, these ones have to work real hard or they won't have money for living.

Do your child have to cry or run away because bombs, guns, cannons,...?Children in Iraq do have to.

You're pregnant, you want your baby to look like whom? Like mommy or daddy? And in the future, they'll become a doctor or a singer, actress, scientist? Whatever they do, you just want them to be happy, right? But look at the picture, will these Vietnam children have future? Will they become complete persons? Normal persons? They're incomplete just because of somebody's cruel ambitions: Agent Orange!

War can do nothing but hurting people more and more. My Lai Massacre-a pain that can not heal in our memory. They were not soldiers, they are just normal villagers. But why? These children, they're too small to know what was war about. Look deeper and count, how many innocent people and children in there?

And hunger? While we have to force our children to eat something they don't like, in Somali or other poor Africa countries, those little ones have no choice. They eat whatever they think they could until God take them away from this Earth. A helping hand is not enough for them.


















I hope that someday, children all over the world will have the same privileges: being loved. And can always have a smile even in there dreams.
